SAN FRANCISCO(AP) Omar Samhan had 17 points and six rebounds, Patty Mills scored 19 points and Saint Mary's extended the second-longest winning streak in school history to 12 games with a 66-54 victory against Bay Area rival San Francisco on Sunday night.

Diamon Simpson added 10 points and 13 rebounds and Carlin Hughes had 11 points and four assists for the Gaels (15-1, 2-0 WCC), who made it a sweep of their rival neighbors in the opening weekend of West Coast Conference play. They won in dramatic fashion Friday night when Mills hit a game-winning 3-pointer with 2.6 seconds left for a 63-62 victory over rival Santa Clara.

Dior Lowhorn, last season's WCC scoring leader and the Dons' top man this season at 20.2 points per game, faced double teams on many possessions and finished with 22 points on 8-for-20 shooting for cold-shooting USF (8-9, 0-2). The Dons didn't make their first field goal of the second half until Lowhorn dunked with 14:17 left.

Samhan converted all six of his field-goal tries and scored eight of the Gaels' initial 10 points with six straight in his own 6-0 spurt. His team's 12-game winning streak is the second-longest in school history behind a 13-game run during the 1958-59 season.

Saint Mary's - the WCC's top scoring team at 77.2 points per game coming in - improved to 5-0 on the road with its sixth straight victory against USF in the series and 10th in 11 meetings overall, including a third victory in a row at Memorial Gym. The Gaels now have two home games this week against Loyola Marymount and Pepperdine before hitting the road to face San Diego and Gonzaga on Jan. 22 and 29, respectively - the two other conference teams to reach the NCAA tournament last March.

The Dons pulled within 12 late after five straight points by Peter Smith, but Mills answered with a 3 on the other end at 4:30.

USF has lost five of its last six and had another tough night on the offensive end after shooting 34.9 percent in a 65-50 defeat to San Diego on Friday night in its conference opener.

First-year USF coach Rex Walters was whistled for a technical foul at the 8:48 mark of the first half for arguing a foul call.

Mills picked up his second foul with 8 minutes to go in the first half and went to the bench but Saint Mary's was still able to break the game open. After Angelo Caloiaro's 3-pointer with 2:44 remaining in the half, the Gaels closed on an 8-0 run.

The Dons went 6 1/2 minutes without a field goal late in the first half, shot 35 percent and committed eight turnovers to fall behind 35-22 at the break.
