Saint Mary's beats S. Illinois 65-52
INDIANAPOLIS(AP) Omar Samhan had 17 points and 16 rebounds to lead Saint Mary's past Southern Illinois 65-52 Saturday night in the Wooden Tradition.
Patrick Mills finished with 16 points and Diamon Simpson grabbed 12 rebounds for the Gaels (9-1), who won their sixth consecutive game.
Ryan Hare scored 14 points and Kevin Dillard chipped in nine each for Southern Illinois (4-6).
The Salukis shot 27 percent from the field en route to their third loss in four games.
Saint Mary's, which trailed by as many as nine points in the first half, took control with an 18-3 run midway through the second period. Mills' jumper gave the Gaels a 51-36 lead and all the momentum.
The game was the second in the annual Wooden Tradition doubleheader at Conseco Fieldhouse. No. 13 Purdue beat No. 22 Davidson 76-58 in the first game.
