Thomas FTs in OT give Sam Houston 60-58 win over Central Florida

HUNTSVILLE, Texas(AP) Jeremy Thomas scored 11 points and made two free throws with one second left in overtime to give Sam Houston State a 60-58 victory against Central Florida on Saturday.


The Bearkats (12-1) are off to their best start since 1973, when they won their first 28 games before losing in the NAIA playoffs.


Mike O'Donnell forced overtime for the Knights (7-7) by making two free throws with 1:14 remaining. Kendrick Zonderman missed a dunk for Central Florida with 13 seconds left in regulation, which ended in a 50-50 tie.


Sam Houston went ahead for good on a 3-pointer by Shamir McDaniel in the first minute of overtime.


Jermaine Taylor scored 22 points for UCF, and Dave Noel added 13. Tony Davis had seven points and 13 rebounds.


McDaniel joined Thomas in leading Sam Houston with 11 points. Ryan Bright had nine points, nine rebounds and three assists.


Sam Houston extended its non-conference home winning streak to 44 games, second-longest in the nation behind Duke's 57-game streak.
