Fisher scores 17 to lead Kent State past George Mason, 73-55

KENT, Ohio(AP) Al Fisher scored 17 points and Kent State broke open a close game with a 25-8 run in the second half to beat George Mason 73-55 Saturday.


Haminn Quaintance and Mike Scott scored 10 points apiece for the Golden Flashes (8-2) and Mike McKee added nine.


John Vaugh led the Patriots (7-3) with 17 points and Thomas Will added 12. Folarin Campbell scored nine points.


After trailing by six at the half, 38-32, Vaugh hit a 3-pointer with 18:31 to cut Kent State's lead to three.


Mike Scott then started the decisive run with two foul shots. Chris Singletary followed with a layup and Sherman Rodriguez hit a 3-pointer to give Kent State a 45-35 lead. Rodriguez hit another 3-pointer with 7:44 left to finish the run as the Golden Flashes extended the lead to 63-43.


McKee scored five straight points, including a 3-pointer with 3:47 left in the first half, as Kent State closed the first first half on a 9-3 run to take the lead for good.


Kent State shot 51 percent from the field, 27-of-53, to 48 percent for George Mason, 20-of-42. The Golden Flashes had just five turnovers to 13 for the Patriots.
