Campbell scores 16 in George Mason's 57-54 win over Hampton

FAIRFAX, Va.(AP) Folarin Campbell scored 16 points, including eight in the final minutes, and George Mason defeated Hampton 57-54 Wednesday night.


Campbell broke a 47-47 tie by scoring eight points in the final 6:11 as George Mason (7-2) improved to 4-0 all-time against Hampton (4-4).


Will Thomas missed with seven seconds remaining, giving Hampton a final opportunity. But Rashad West's 3-pointer as time expired went astray. West, the Pirates' only player in double figures, scored 22 points.


Vincent Simpson hit two 3-pointers and four Pirates scored during a 15-4 run as Hampton overcame an early double-digit deficit in the second half. West connected on two free throws to tie the score at 47.


John Vaughan had 12 points and Thomas added eight points and 11 rebounds for the Patriots.


Campbell's 10 points helped the Patriots overcome 11 first-half turnovers and take a 32-24 halftime lead.
