Or their dreams. I hope it does inspire them. I hope I can help them in any way I can."</blockquote>But Laue isn't just a feel-good story. His teammate Rico Pickett says, "He's a good player just like any other players. I don't see him as any different."<br /> <br /> The first time Laue takes the floor for Manhattan, it's likely that everyone watching <em>will</em> see him as different: It's not every day you see an NCAA player with one hand. But Laue, who averaged 10 points and five rebounds a game last year at Fork Union Military Academy, won't need much time on the floor before he shows everyone that Pickett is right: He's just like any other player.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://ncaabasketball.fanhouse.com/2009/10/21/born-with-one-hand-kevin-laue-ready-for-ncaa-basketball-debut/">Born With One Hand, Kevin Laue Ready for NCAA Basketball Debut</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://ncaabasketball.fanhouse.com">NCAA Basketball FanHouse</a> on Wed, 21 Oct 2009 10:15:00 EST . Seriously, <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Stephen+Colbert/">Stephen Colbert</a>'s ability to make any and all confrontations between famous authors, politicians and now college basketball coaches funny is a thing of beauty. Duke coach <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Mike+Krzyzewski/">Mike Krzyzewski</a> was <a href="http://www.sportingnews.com/blog/firstcuts/entry/view/23328/mike_krzyzewski_on_the_colbert_report">on the Report Tuesday</a>, talking about his new book and, thanks to Colbert, he somehow wound up comparing Stephen to <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/LeBron+James/">LeBron James</a>. <br /><br />

Duke led Virginia Tech by three with about 20 seconds left at the time, meaning the officials cost the Hokies the chance to get the ball back and send the game into overtime.<br /> <br /> Here's how <a href="http://weblogs.dailypress.com/sports/teelblog/2009/03/the_scheyer_shuffle.html">David Teel of The Daily Press describes it</a>:<br /> <blockquote>Scheyer caught an inbounds pass in backcourt from Kyle Singler and was swarmed immediately by Tech's J.T. Thompson and Terrell Bell.<br /><br />In this morning's print column, also available online, I described Scheyer's subsequent tapdance as an "apparent walk." Well, there's no apparent about it.<br /><br />Scheyer changed his pivot foot at least twice, maybe three times. But officials Gary Maxwell, Tony Greene and Bob Donato swallowed their whistles until Duke was able to call timeout.<br /><br />Tech coach Seth Greenberg was quick to volunteer during his postgame news conference that there's no guarantee the Hokies would have made a 3 to tie the game, but he did say the officials missed it.<br /><br />They sure did, leading Tech fan Burt Baker and others to dub it the "Scheyer Shuffle." </blockquote> The <a href="http://thebiglead.com/?p=11790">refs let Duke get away with a blantant travel last week, too</a>. Way to work the refs, Coach K.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://ncaabasketball.fanhouse.com/2009/03/01/traveling-rule-doesnt-apply-to-dukes-jon-scheyer/">Traveling Rule Doesn't Apply to Duke's Jon Scheyer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://ncaabasketball.fanhouse.com">NCAA Basketball FanHouse</a> on Sun, 01 Mar 2009 10:50:00 EST . At a George Mason game last weekend, a drag queen was chosen as the school's homecoming queen.<br /><br />The drag queen was Ryan Allen, a senior at George Mason who performs in drag at nightclubs in the region. He <a href="http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5jxU3fLHivgSqzF5NdHkOdsNYq6dQD96FIRGO0">told the Associated Press</a> he entered the homecoming court election as a joke, under the name Reann Ballslee. But enough people went along with his joke that he won:<blockquote> "I was very touched by how Mason was so supportive through the whole process of allowing a boy in a dress to run for homecoming queen," Allen said in a phone interview. "It says a lot about the campus that not only do we have diversity but we celebrate it." </blockquote>University spokesman Dan Walsch told the AP the school is "very comfortable" with Allen's selection. Although Allen's title is "Ms. Mason," the contest rules say nothing about the winner having to be female.<br /><br /> "It's just that if you're a man who runs for Ms., you've got to dress the part," Walsch added.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://ncaabasketball.fanhouse.com/2009/02/21/homecoming-drag-queen-honored-at-george-mason-basketball-game/">Homecoming Drag Queen Honored at George Mason Basketball Game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://ncaabasketball.fanhouse.com">NCAA Basketball FanHouse</a> on Sat, 21 Feb 2009 12:57:00 EST . Both big men, combined, have pulled down 23.1 rebounds and blocked 5.2 shots per game heading into the contest. It would likely be a battle. But I don't think anyone expected to see a Royal Rumble move (albeit an accidental one) busted out, when, just three minutes into the game, Blair accidentally (I think) flipped Thabeet to the floor.<br /><br /><object width="425" height="295"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/f5R_k0Sw8nc&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/f5R_k0Sw8nc&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="295"></embed></object><br /><br /><a href="http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/blog/the_dagger/post/Thankfully-Hasheem-Thabeet-s-arm-is-still-attac?urn=ncaab%2C141839">Via El Daga</a><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://ncaabasketball.fanhouse.com/2009/02/16/dejuan-blair-slams-hasheem-thabeet/">DeJuan Blair Slams Hasheem Thabeet</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://ncaabasketball.fanhouse.com">NCAA Basketball FanHouse</a> on Mon, 16 Feb 2009 21:40:00 EST . You probably know him as "<a href="http://ncaabasketball.fanhouse.com/tag/CrazyTowelGuy/">Crazy Towel Guy</a>." (He got his own Wiki page, <a href="http://deletionpedia.dbatley.com/w/index.php?title=Herb_Neubauer_(deleted_05_Apr_2008_at_12:51)">but it was deleted</a>.) This is because Neubauer, an elderly gentleman and tremendous Duke fan, wildly swings his white towel at least once a game as the students cheer him on. He's so endearing, in fact, that he's basically one of them. So much so that he comes in the student entrance. Witness below, as he chugs a Monster energy drink, smashes it on the ground and freaks out.<br /><br /><object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/qm5IPS0KZRM&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/qm5IPS0KZRM&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://ncaabasketball.fanhouse.com/2009/02/11/crazy-towel-guy-is-popular-at-duke/">'Crazy Towel Guy' Is Popular at Duke</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://ncaabasketball.fanhouse.com">NCAA Basketball FanHouse</a> on Wed, 11 Feb 2009 21:45:00 EST .
