Willis and Kimberly are chilling out when the doorbell rings. Mr. Drummond heads to the door ... opens it up ... and in walks ... Boston College head basketball coach Al Skinner.

Coach Skinner is bent (for some reason Mr. Drummond calls him "Ted") because someone had been giving Dudley (they say it is his son ... but it may be ex-BC star Jared Dudley) some wine. That, it seems, is just the least of his worries.

Okay, okay, this really isn't Al Skinner. It is actor Le Tari who played the part of Ted Ramsey, father of Dudley Ramsey ... who was Arnold Jackson's best friend on Diff'rent Strokes. Frank Ben-Eze, a 6'10" center who chose the Crimson over Big East schools, has reopened his recruitment. Ben-Eze was the best player in what was considered the best recruiting class in the history of the school.

Ben-Eze hadn't been accepted by Harvard's admissions department yet and the Times reports that he had not reached Harvard's minimum academic standards. The center's summer league coach says that academics had nothing to do with his decision, however.

"Academically it was never an issue at Harvard," he said. "He was definitely up to standards. He just sat down and did some thinking. He's a bright young man and very smart."

He's also pretty good at basketball. Rob Johnson, the coach, said that he's heard from Connecticut, Pitt and Boston College, among other big-time programs, since Ben-Eze put himself back on the market. That kind of interest is what opened so many eyes around the Ivy League in the first place.

The loss of Ben-Eze will hurt the Crimson on the basketball court but it will probably help Amaker weather the storm that's kicked up around his recruiting standards and style. %Gallery-14428%
Harvard's Top Recruit Backs Out After Questions About Recruiting Surface originally appeared on NCAA Basketball FanHouse on Tue, 11 Mar 2008 09:15:00 EST . Rice dumped eight three-pointers in scoring 34 points by the break. Right then, Rice had set his career high.

In the second half, Rice was forced to create his own shots off the dribble and added another 12 points. However, he looked a bit tired and struggled to get his shot off against a taller Marcus Ginyard.

Still, Rice's 46 points is the second most points scored this season (Houston's Robert McKiver went for 52 points earlier this week), the second most points scored in BC hoops history (the record is 49 set back in 1964) and is the third most scored by a player against the Tar Heels (Duke's Dick Groat poured in 48 against the Heels in 1952).

Through all that, the Eagles had a 58-40 lead just minutes into the second half. But ...

... Carolina came alive. Led by Wayne Ellington and Danny Green from the outside and Tyler Hansbrough on the inside, the Heels mounted a huge comeback. Over the next 14 minutes, North Carolina went on a 40-12 run and put the game away. UNC won, 90-80.

"You just can't ask one person to score all your points for you," BC coach Al Skinner said.

Indeed. No other Eagle scored in double figures. Meanwhile, the Tar Heels got 25 from Hansbrough, 20 from Ellington and 18 from Green. Also, Ty Lawson made his first appearance in almost exactly one month. He was injured on Super Bowl Sunday against Florida State and hasn't seen action since (oh, and FSU comes to visit Carolina on Tuesday).
Tyrese Rice's 46 Points Not Enough to Down Tar Heels originally appeared on NCAA Basketball FanHouse on Sat, 01 Mar 2008 20:17:00 EST . One is the fact that North Carolina guard Ty Lawson has finally come back into the lineup for the first time in a month. He didn't start (Quentin Thomas did) but did come in and play a few minutes in the first half.

The other is Boston College's Tyrese Rice. Rice scored 23 points in the first seven minutes of the game ... and has 34 points in the first half. Rice has hit eight three-pointers thus far (again, it is halftime) and set his career high -- for an entire game!

North Carolina ... one of the best scoring teams in the nation ... has just 40 points at the break.

The odd thing is Lawson is having to guard Rice when he's on the floor. Lawson hasn't played since Super Bowl Sunday when he injured his ankle in the opening minutes against Florida State. Now he's asked to guard on of the best scorers in the ACC ... but when he's feeling it offensively.

Boston College leads the #2 Tar Heels 54-40 at the half.

UNC-BC Update: Tyrese Rice is Unconscious; Tywon Lawson is Playing originally appeared on NCAA Basketball FanHouse on Sat, 01 Mar 2008 16:27:00 EST . When Nessler got it back, he unearthed this:

"All right Reece, leave Tom Bradley alone. He deserves a day off with his girlfriend whether he's limping or not."

Tom Bradley? You could chalk that up to basketball announcer guy not knowing football that well. Except Nessler is one of the top announcers ESPN/ABC has and is the voice for EA Sports' NCAA Football video game series. I'm pretty sure he knows who Tom Brady is. I'll chalk it up to the fact that Nessler had been saying Kentucky guard Ramel Bradley's name all night and having it on the brain.
ESPN's Brad Nessler Wants You to Leave Tom Bradley Alone originally appeared on NCAA Basketball FanHouse on Wed, 23 Jan 2008 13:07:00 EST .

Still, it wasn't enough. Boston College improves to 3-0 in the ACC ... keeping pace with North Carolina and Duke as the conference's lone unbeaten teams in ACC play.

#24 Miami drops just its second game on the season (the first was to Winthrop). Rice is the first BC star that has been in the ACC the entire time ... and he knows that he's got a lot on his shoulders.

What are the team's strengths? Boston College came into the ACC with that Big East bravado of tough defense and physical play. Even though some of those parts are now gone ... there are plenty of role guys still around that will keep that going. Also, with Rice at the helm, they are one of the smartest teams in the league.

When will we see them struggle? Teams will try to make things difficult for Rice, and there isn't that much around that would make opponents pay for doing so. ACC Player of the Year Jared Dudley was Mr. Do It All last year ... but is gone [along with Sean Marshall] and there aren't too many guys other than Rice that has had to score.

Why should anyone care? I was skeptical at first, but BC has been a great addition to the conference. Al Skinner is one of the most underrated coaches in the nation. That trip up to Chestnut Hill is a tough one for anyone.

How stable is the program? Boston College won the Big East regular season title in their final year in the conference ... and has been a major player in their first two seasons in the ACC. Al Skinner has been rewarded for that with a long term deal, making him the top coach in the conference who hasn't won an NCAA Championship.

Where will they finish in the ACC? This team has taken a big hit in talent, so they probably won't challenge for an ACC title this year. However, the exposure that the ACC has given the Eagles and the Skinner extension means that this middle of the pack team will move back up soon.

Name you didn't know, but will: Shamari Spears was an unsung freshman last year, but will be relied on to do a bulk of the work Dudley did for the Eagles.

ACC Hoops Preview: #8-Boston College originally appeared on NCAA Basketball FanHouse on Tue, 30 Oct 2007 10:00:00 EST . The extention means that Skinner will be around Chestnut Hill until 2012-2013.
"Al Skinner has led our basketball program to a level of consistent excellence," athletic director Gene DeFilippo said in a release Tuesday. "He has established himself as one of the top coaches in all of college basketball. Our program is in very good hands, and we are pleased to have him continue as our head coach."

Skinner has done a masterful job at BC in a tough period. In BC's final season in the Big East [when everyone was gunning for them], he led the Eagles to 20 straight wins to begin the season. The next year ... BC's first in the ACC ... Skinner's bunch did damage in the league, winning a school record 28 games. Last year, the Eagles had the ACC's Player of the Year in Jared Dudley.

He also could be the adult version of Dudley from Diff'rent Strokes.

Boston College Extends Al Skinner's Contract originally appeared on NCAA Basketball FanHouse on Wed, 05 Sep 2007 01:39:00 EST . Pretty much everyone took a hit this offseason, with only four teams really looking like locks for the NCAA tournament. There is little doubt that North Carolina will be the favorite ... but remember that this was the case last year ... and UNC was nearly the #5 seed in the ACC tournament. NC State, Duke and Clemson have the best shot at giving the Heels trouble for the title

1-North Carolina: Sometimes subtraction isn't a bad thing. The Heels lose Brandan Wright and Reyshawn Terry, but the rotation should be tighter and everyone more understanding of their roles. If UNC is going to make its title run, they better do it now before Ty Lawson and Tyler Hansbrough bolt.

2-NC State: Brandon Costner is my pick for ACC Player of the Year. With JJ Hickson running alongside him in the paint, Costner is free to show his entire game [similar to how Wright helped Hansbrough last year in Chapel Hill]. This team is ready to break out and get back into the ACC's elite. At issue is finding Engin Atsur's replacement ... since he was so key in the success of the Pack last year.

3-Duke: With Kyle Singler and Taylor King coming in, expect Duke to go back to its gun-slinging ways. Last year's team wasn't normal Duke: they struggled to find their offense and were very inconsistent shooting. The big issue this year is ... well, what happens if they keep missing those threes? Josh McRoberts is gone and there really isn't anyone reliable in the paint to score or rebound.

4-Clemson: Can the Tigers get back that team that was scorching the early part of the season? Well, they have four returning starters and has one of the better frontcourts in the conference. They just need to get their minds right. This team has the talent ... they just need to tighten the bolts and clean the sawdust.

5-Virginia: Dave Leitao better thank God that Sean Singletary came back. The ACC player of the year candidate will be asked to do even more with JR Reynolds and Jason Cain gone.

6-Maryland: Gotta love those Terps! The head-scratchers are gone, with their understudies ready to take their place. The team will rely on James Gist and Greivis Vasquez to become leaders on and off the floor. However, this streaky team must find someone who can hit a shot.

7-Georgia Tech: Tech was ready to take its place back on the national stage. Then the NBA snagged freshmen Thad Young and Javaris Crittenden. Now Tech is a team full of big men and no one around to take the heat off them. One good note: the Jackets get UNC, Duke and NC State only once apiece this year.

8-Boston College: Losing ACC Player of the Year Jared Dudley and Sean Marshall will be tough. Especially for a team that relied on those two [plus Tyrese Rice] for most of their offense last year. Rice is back and may be asked to do everything for the Eagles this year.

9-Miami: Frank Haith did an admirable job fighting during a season that saw his Canes kicked around. There is some talent on this team and a huge chip on their shoulders. They could sneak into the NCAAs.

10-Florida State: With ACC's leading scorer Al Thornton, the Noles underachieved yet again. Now he's gone. Jason Rich and Isaiah Swann could form a decent backcourt, but FSU lacks any kind of inside presence.

11-Wake Forest: This may be the calm before the storm. The Deacs were awful for most of last season before winning four down the stretch. Kyle Visser is gone and the big recruiting class is a year away. This is the year the other guys get their chance to show what they've got.

12-Virginia Tech: Ugh. Only four scholarship players are coming back from a team that nearly won the ACC last year.

Amaker, who has also coached at Seton Hall and was a player and assistant coach at Duke, beat out former Boston University and St. John's coach Mike Jarvis for the Harvard job.

Harvard seems like a good fit for Amaker, who is known for emphasizing academics. Amaker will be the only African-American coach at Harvard, which has 32 intercollegiate sports. Amaker's wife, who was associate dean of students at Michigan, is expected to get a job on the Harvard faculty.

Harvard, which has never won an Ivy League title in men's basketball, was criticized in some quarters for firing previous coach Frank Sullivan, who ran a clean program and held his players to high academic standards but had a losing record. Michigan is scheduled to play at Harvard next season.
Ex-Michigan Coach Tommy Amaker to Coach Harvard originally appeared on NCAA Basketball FanHouse on Tue, 10 Apr 2007 10:20:00 EST . The Eagles stars shone bright this afternoon as Tyrese Rice, Sean Marshall and ACC Player of the Year Jared Dudley all caught fire and carried BC into the 2nd round. BC did was BC does. Those three stars combined for 66 points and shot 25-for-48 from the field and were the catalysts for a 14-4 run midway through the 2nd half that took control of this game.

BC heads to on to play tournament darling Georgetown on Saturday.

As for the Terps, they fought off a game Davidson squad, 82-70 in their Midwest Region opener. Maryland had problems dealing with Stephen Curry ... son of former Charlotte Hornet Dell Curry . But Maryland coach Gary Williams made the adjustment to have DJ Strawberry get in his face the rest of the game, making Curry's shots more difficult and forcing other Davidson players to have to beat them. It worked. Curry's shots weren't falling and he ultimately fouled out after scoring 30 points. Rest assured, Curry and Davidson will be heard from again as they will return all five starters.

Maryland advances to play the winner of the Butler-Old Dominion game.

The ACC is now 5-0 in post-season play with Duke and North Carolina set to lace them up tonight. Tomorrow, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech begin their tournaments.

ACC Looks Good: Boston College and Maryland Advance originally appeared on NCAA Basketball FanHouse on Thu, 15 Mar 2007 17:00:00 EST .
There are three games left in the ACC season, and all three have ramifications to how next week's ACC tournament will be seeded. The games are Boston College at Georgia Tech, Clemson at Virginia Tech and Duke at North Carolina.

We know that:

NC State is the #10 seed

Wake Forest is the #11 seed

Miami is the #12 seed

Clemson and Florida State will be the #8 and #9 seeds and face each other Thursday in the ACC tournament. If Clemson wins today, they'll be the #8 seed. If not, they'll be the #9 seed.

If Ga Tech beats BC, then Tech is the #6 seed and Duke is the #7 seed. If Tech loses, the seeds switch

After that, it's a bit dicey. Using the ACC tiebreaker procedures, here is what's at stake today:

VIRGINIA

If UNC, BC and Va Tech all lose....Virginia is the top seed

If all those three win....Virginia is the #4 seed

If two of the three win....Virginia is the #3 seed

If one of the three win...Virginia is the #2 seed

NORTH CAROLINA

TO BE THE #1 SEED...UNC beats Duke and Virginia Tech loses to Clemson.

TO BE THE #2 SEED...UNC beats Duke and Virginia Tech beats Clemson.

TO BE THE #3 SEED...UNC loses to Duke and Boston College loses to Ga Tech.

TO BE THE #5 SEED...UNC loses to Duke and Boston College beats Ga Tech.

BOSTON COLLEGE

TO BE THE #1 SEED...BC beats Ga Tech and UNC loses to Duke

TO BE THE #2 SEED...BC beats Ga Tech and Virginia Tech loses to Clemson

TO BE THE #3 SEED...BC beats Ga Tech and Virginia Tech beats Clemson

TO BE THE #4 SEED...BC loses to Ga Tech

VIRGINIA TECH

TO BE THE #1 SEED...Va Tech beats Clemson and UNC beats Duke OR Va Tech beats Clemson and UNC and Boston College both lose

TO BE THE #2 SEED...Va Tech beats Clemson, UNC loses to Duke and Boston College beats Ga Tech OR Va Tech loses to Clemson, and both UNC and Boston College loses.

TO BE THE #3 SEED...Va Tech loses to Clemson and either UNC or Boston College loses

TO BE THE #4 SEED...Va Tech loses to Clemson, plus UNC and Boston College both win

MARYLAND

TO BE A #4 SEED....North Carolina must lose to Duke and Boston College must beat Georgia Tech

TO BE A #5 SEED....Anything else happens.

Excuse me if you wake up tomorrow and someone tells you different - I did not copy any of this from any web site.
