Bob Knight Reportedly Interested in Georgia Job

Bob Knight has been great since he moved from the bench to the booth -- "Knight Watch" aside. He looks happy to be calling games for the WWL and he does a good job of it, so there's little reason to think he might want to get back into coaching.

Unless you listen to the AJC's Furman Bisher, who wrote Saturday that Knight is interested in the recently opened Georgia head coaching position.
"He doesn't want it to look as if he's pursuing the job. He'd like to be offered it, and if offered, he'd take it," said a mutual friend, who did not want to be named but was willing for this columnist to report Knight's interest.

"He doesn't want it to look as if he's looking for work, but I can assure you that he'd like to have the job. It's the idea of coaching a team in the Southeastern Conference that appeals to him. There are just so many things he could do for Georgia basketball. This would be his last stop, and he likes that."
That last part is probably true: Knight really resurrected basketball in Lubbock, but it also begs the question, why? As in, why would Knight be interested in saving Georgia basketball? It makes total sense that Knight wouldn't be done with basketball yet -- his passion is evident in his behavior on air. And, yes, Georgia is a big-name program. But until there's something substantial coming from either Knight or (more likely) the Bulldogs' athletic department, I say we hold off on speculation that the fiery coach is heading back to the sideline.
