Remember the "high emotions" between Mike Copeland and Ben McCauley I described at the end of the NC State-North Carolina game? Well, if you didn't get a chance to see it, here you go, via the N&O. Who do you think is in the wrong? (I'm going with Mike Copeland: trying to score there = wholly unnecessary.) Also, +1000 to Roy Williams for yelling, "MICHAEL!" like an angry father near the end of the clip.

Brinson,
You are a huge State fan and consequently, extremely bias. Stop reporting on things that are an obvious conflict of interest.
Ok Brinson, Ive been reading your posts all season, and Im kinda getting tired of the anti-Carolina bias. I mean, at least PRETEND to be sorta-kinda neutral. I know, I know, its a blog, your not held to the same standard of journalistic integrity as real reporters (now THATS an back-handed compliment - ha!). Copeland is a reserve; of course he's going to try to get on the stat sheet. And its a heated game; these teams dont like eachother. The foul was clearly hard and flagrent. On the other hand, it was a douche-bag move for Copeland to get up and go after McCauley like that; he deserved the T, and whatever Williams dishes out to him Monday during practice. And finally, I think kudos goes to the ref; Copeland is a big dude, but he stepped in there fast, and headed off an ugly situation.
Frankly, State gets deserves whatever they get after firing a coach that was regulary taking them to the NCAA tournry. Did you notice ASU is at 14th in the country? :)
There is a very big difference between attempting to get on the stat sheet and essentially rubbing a hard loss in the face of NCSU players and fans.
He was clearly going up for a dunk. It is one thing to be playing in the Dean Smith Center amidst a sea of Carolina blue - in that case it still would've been over the top, but that situation allows for 'celebratory' last second slams. It is quite another thing to be in the RBC Center, a week after Kay Yow's death, winning by a large margin, and then try to dunk the ball? It seemed like a smack in the face and quite a ballsy move for a reserve to pull.
The foul against Copeland was flagrant, but he shouldn't have attempted the score in that manner in the first place and he certainly should not have jumped up at McCauley afterwards.
Hey Thomas, Herb QUIT! Herb was never fired.
Go away, idiot
what continues to kill me about this story is:
1) its a non-story. all parties apologized and both roy and sidney lowe said all the right things. AND
2) people who are defending the foul say copeland was going to perform some ridiculous dunk. how can you determine that considering he only got about 2inches off the ground before he got fouled. also, he had ACL surgery this summer and has played in 5 games. im not positive copeland can even dunk right now.
copepland was wrong for charging mccauley. mccauley fouled him a little too hard. this is basketball, there was dirty stuff in the wake-duke game earlier in the week.
finally, to the commentor who brings up that it was Kay Yow day, that has nothing to do with this incident and its sad you would bring that up. was it kay yow day when a state student yelled 'i hate you tyler' during a moment of silence before the game?
Amen JD, it's a two way street here. McCauley was just angry for getting dragged up and down the court all day. I would have been too. And how do we know Copeland was going for the dunk ? Maybe it was just a very agressive layup.
Ok. Someone yelling I hate you Tyler during the moment of silence seriously has nothing to do with this blog. Disrespectful... Yes, Committed by some drunk idiot Yes.
Whether Copeland was going jumping up to destroy the rim and backboard with a super stylish dunk. or trying to lay up a graceful layup. IT DOESNT MATTER. The ball should have been pulled up at half court and the clock ran out.
I know one player doesnt determine a teams demeanor when it comes to paying basketball so i don't hold UNC basketball responsible. Im sure Roy would have been mad whether or not Copeland got up and went after McCauley.
McCauley maybe shouldn't have hack Copeland but its Basketball. He was preventing further "embarassment" to a loss by a rival. the Score at the time was already a double digit margin. Hack away Ben.
Players should go hard till the final whistle, but enough, is enough. And Copeland should have realized.
But really. Copeland was going for a lay up? Please dude, He's 6'7". He would have to jump 20 inches off the ground to dunk. if he wasnt ready to dunk he wouldnt be playing.
Copeland's a punk....he got fouled hard...fell to the ground....never came close to hitting his head and got up barking...HOLDING HIS HEAD....whatta baby....and McCaulley says...."Not in my House!"
Have fun running laps...you Cracolina Cry-baby!
haha NC STATE SUCKS
suck on a fat one
mccauley had a pass go off his fat, ugly face last night... it was HILARIOUS
and then he airballed and we let him hear it. what a bitch.
hah, what a pathetic attempt to drag an old issue into the spotlight for your team. that event is long over. Start winning some games and you might have some better journalism you can put your name on. (then again, talent may be an issue if you ever find yourself with real material.)
