Wake Forest shocked most of the world on Sunday night with a win over North Carolina. (I say "most" because, well, some smart people picked them to win the national title before the season.) But it really wasn't shocking to see them jump Duke in the AP poll and become the nation's new number two ranked team; Pittsburgh, naturally, stayed put at one.
The only shocking thing to see was that in the Coaches poll, the Deacs didn't jump the Devils. Quite odd, considering that, even as good as Duke is, Wake did just beat the unstoppable will of one Tyler Hansbrough. Perhaps it has something to do with Mike Krzyzewski's recent comments to the media about the lack of respect his Devils have been getting.
I don't even think it was mentioned in the newspapers here, that we were No. 2 in the polls. Fact, I know it wasn't mentioned, so I guess nobody really cares. It's interesting, always interesting to me in 29 years here, the subtleties of the local press is funny in some respects.Yes, it does seem a bit excessive ... but he kind of has a point; the local media (and national to a degree) have been slobbering all over the Tar Heels this season. And when they haven't been busy massaging Psycho T's thighs, everyone's been surprised at just how good this Deacs team has played.
So maybe Duke deserves a little love. Or maybe we just wait until January 28 to see who walks out of LJVM in Winston with a win. Odds are pretty good that it'll be a matchup of the top two teams in the ACC at the time.

I don't think Wake should have passed Duke in the rankings because Duke has continued to win. It's almost as if those polled said, "Gee, UNC is so great that whomever beat them has to be better than Duke". The ranking of Duke and Wake will be settled on the court.
In the state, the sports coverage largely begins and ends with UNC. If UNC wins it's front page stuff in the Raleigh and Charlotte newspapers, but if they lose it will be buried somewhere in the back pages. At least Wake garners attention in its hometown paper, something N.C. State can't say where the Raleigh N&O deifies all things baby blue. Duke seems to fare better than Wake but is still a distant second to UNC.

Stupid article. Coach K is talking only about local coverage, not national. Duke has always been the ugly step-sister in North Carolina, especially the Charlotte area, even with UNC was down and Duke was on top.
I'd be willing to bet, Coach K has Wake up pretty high on his list.
