There is a teleconference scheduled for 4:00 today, in which the NCAA will announce their findings against Indiana University. The investigation centered around model citizen Kelvin Sampson and the squeaky clean job he did in his short time at Indiana. Taking down a program who had never even been under suspicion in terms of NCAA rules violations in less than two years is a pretty bang-up job, you know. Regardless, the albatross is gone, and Tom Crean is picking up the pieces in a massive rebuilding effort. That effort should not be impeded any further than it already has been, because the NCAA will impose three years of probation and nothing more. No postseason ban -- which doesn't really mean much short-term, since the team isn't sniffing the postseason this year anyway -- and no further sanctions in terms of being handcuffed in recruiting. What probation means is that the university will have to regularly file reports with the NCAA, detailing how they are following the rules.
It's just like being on actual probation, really. The probation officer is the NCAA, and Crean and his men will simply be reporting to the officer that they are not breaking the law. I don't foresee a problem there, so it's good news all-around for the Hoosiers today. Hopefully that continues with their 1:30 tilt against St. Joseph's in Maui.
As for Sampson, he's basically not allowed in the NCAA for five years, unless a case of extreme circumstances arises. I can't see how any school in their right mind would ever give this bum a chance again. He ruined two programs -- temporarily -- in less than two years.

Well perhaps there is justice as Kelvin and his arogant above the law attitude finally met its match as he will no longer drag a program down in the near future, 5 years. AS an I.U. Graduate I did like the man but why would he do this and just lie and deny? Kelvin should feel at home in the NBA as HE can deal with other Overpaid Jerks that feel as if the are above the law.

As another former IU grad, all I can say is thanks to the NCAA; it would seem that they took IU's tradition of being a clean program into consideration. Sampson should have been ridden out of town on a rail. Just another example of the current arrogance that has overrun sports. And don't give me that horsesh*t about "they pay me to win". IU has a long and proud tradition of winning--and getting players through graduation--without any of the slick BS this guy and his staff brought to Bloomington.
Bottom line is this: yes, as a grad (and former varsity athlete), I've always been happy to see the Hoosiers field a successful season, in any sport. But nothing has ever been as important to me as the fact that it's always been done while running an above-board program. Winning is not only not everything, it's nothing, if it's done in such a way as to smear our longstanding pride in our programs.
Sayonara, Mr. Sampson. Don't let the screen door hit your sorry *ss on the way out.

Thanks to the NCAA for seeing the situation as it was, not the way the media had it played out. Kelvin was just an arrogant, lying SOB who thought he was above the law. As a former IU grad I believe the NCAA looked at the track record of both IU and Sampson and decided that Kelvin had been lying to everyone the entire time. I am a little concerned that a few more people weren't called out on the carpet. I am refering to the President of the university at the time, the board of directors and the AD. As of now we have taken care of the President, and the AD, but there are still members of the board of directors who need to be looked at under the microscope. Enough on that rant it is time to look to the future, and what a promising future we have in my opinion. Will we win many games this year?, probably not, but as I have watched each game unfold this year I have seen a bunch of rag tag players who give 110% for the entire game. To me that speaks volumes of the kind of coach we have in Crean. So in closing I say go Hoosiers keep chipping away and improving with every game and we could just end up spoiling a few teams goaals along the way.
