It's Deja Vu Gardner-Webb All Over Again

Really? Another inexplicable home loss for Kentucky to start the season? From the Big South conference again?

Last year, Kentucky's stunning home loss to Gardner-Webb resulted in turning the small North Carolina school into a verb to explain an inexplicable upset by a low-major school. As in, "I can't believe Michigan got Gardner-Webbed by Harvard."

Well Kentucky was Gardner-Webbed in their season opener. Or maybe it should be called being VMI'd this season. The Wildcats fell to the Keydets (yes, I had to look that up) 111-103. How bad is this one?
The Keydets haven't had a winning season since 1997-98, the year Kentucky won the last of its seven national titles. VMI, picked by coaches to finish seventh in the Big South this year, last topped a major conference team on Dec. 4, 2004, with a 72-66 win over Virginia Tech.

Kentucky's history had been the opposite. It hadn't lost a home game to a mid-major since 2001, but now it's happened twice in two years.
I mean, what can you say. Again? At the very least, Kentucky should stop scheduling Big South opponents after a second straight year of this.

It's a good thing Billy Gillispie has been recruiting hard and finished strong last year. Otherwise, you would expect a bit of restlessness in Lexington.
