Kentucky and North Carolina will renew their "rivalry" of sorts when the two meet up for the 9th straight regular season.
These are college basketball's two winningest programs. They have a combined 11 national championships, tons of All-Americans, play in arenas named after two of the greatest coaches and amazing tradition. Typically, these two have matched up early in December on a CBS-televised game on Saturday. Well, that's not happening now.
UNC-Kentucky are meeting on November 18th ... on a Tuesday ... at 9:00 pm ... on ESPN. November Madness?
The University of Kentucky has released its schedule and shows the date and time for the match-up. Sure, ESPN will have this game hyped up enough ... but it doesn't have that normal feel. I mean, November 18th?? Kentucky will have one game under their belt (against VMI) before they head to Chapel Hill and face the likely #1 team in the nation.
Some internet rumors have ESPN going all out for this game with an all-day deal, but it still is sad that it will relegated to the cable channel. Nothing against them, but it was always that game which CBS seemed to launch their college basketball coverage for the season. Plus, with UNC returning pretty much everyone and Kentucky with a young team, it may not be as gripping a game as usual.
On a personal note, I grew up in Charlotte as a diehard Tar Heel fan ... and now live in Northern Kentucky. This game has been quite a smack-talk topic for pretty much the entire time I've lived here. I rather have seen my Wildcat friends get a bit nervous watching this rolling storm devour other teams before taking on "Big Blue".

i don't think it has lost so much luster, because it didn't have THAT much luster to begin with, especially considering UNC has Duke as it's main rival, and Kentucky has Louisville. But, i'll still watch the game (just because im a DIE HARD tar heel fan)
Kentucky fans can't seem to understand that the sport of college basketball doesn't revolve around a team that hasn't been to the final four in 10 years.
UNC will continue to dominate the "Cats".
By the way....does UK have a single win over UNC in the last 35 years without the dreadful years of coach Matt Doherty?
It's so convenient that you can just scratch out the "doherty years" (hey, at least Kentucky hasn't missed the tournament, much less posted a losing season), but you talk about how the cats have done nothing, when they've has been at or near the top every year except for Tubby's last 2 and this year.
Kentucky is superior to UNC in every measurable category except alums' NBA success, which is a nice thing to have, but entirely superfluous when you're talking about the games being played between the schools.
Every school has their down years, and Kentucky has had fewer than anybody else.. it just so happens that theirs are occurring right now.
