The above video was from the last game that Roy Williams coached at Kansas. It was after the 2003 NCAA Tournament championship game where his Jayhawks lost to Syracuse. After the game, CBS's Bonnie Bernstein asked the question that was all around Ol' Roy all week long: are you going to Carolina?
It is five years ago today that Matt Doherty "resigned" from the head coaching position at North Carolina. From there, rumors ran wild in New Orleans (site of that year's Final Four) that Roy Williams was the one and only guy that UNC wanted.
Oh, if you don't know, Roy Williams did take the Carolina job ... and will be taking his Tar Heels to San Antonio to play Kansas in the Final Four on Saturday.

I am a jayhawk fan. But I will always love roy williams. I want us to win saturday, but if we lose I want UNC to take the whole thing. My somewhat personal experience with this guy revealed he is a class act and a wonderful person. He went home to coach, and I support him, though it made me sad. He is the best. I am proud of who he is and what he accomplished, and I do not give a (flip) who is still angry with him!

I live in Kansas and have nothing but respect and admiration for Roy Williams. I was not a college basketball fan until I watched Roy Williams coaching at K.U. I remember when he left Kansas to return to his home state. It is not uncommon one returns to their roots later in life. I was away from my home for 17 years and lived on the East Coast for a number of those years. Low and behold, as time went by the urge to return home to the familiar surroundings and memories of childhoood creeps up. I remember hearing about a lot of Kansas fans being upset when Roy left but I never realized the grudge that has been held by the minority all this time. I read something today about a poll in Texas that asked what people would do if they met Roy Williams face to face. Something like 12 % would push him in 'over the edge' (in the ocean or something like that) but some 58% or more would shake his hand and thank him for all his years in Kansas. Well, I think the 58% would step in and build a wall around Roy to keep those ungrateful 12% away from him. He is not a traitor. He is a real person like any of us with great character. In fact, he is not like the majority of people. He is a rare individual with exceptional talent, dignity and superb character. He inspires many and his influence on the many young lives he has touched has forever helped those individuals to greatness in more ways than any of us know. I figure in my life if I, myself, can make just one single person's life better or easier in one way or another then I have done something. I cannot imagine how good I would feel if could have touched just a fraction of the lives he has over his life time. If K.U. would beat North Carolina this weekend and Roy Williams wanted to stay and root on K.U. in the final game I think Kansas should be HONORED to have him in their box. If North Carolina beats Kansas, then I plan to root for North Carolina in the final game, simply because Roy Williams has class and character and I would want him as a role model for all young people in this world!
