No matter what the final score actually turned out to be, UCLA won. The Bruins came back and Texas A&M wilted under the pressure. Donald Sloan, the Aggies leading scorer had the ball and was driving to tie the game and send it to overtime. The UCLA defense blocked his attempt and stripped the ball to send it the other way. Well, blocked might not be the correct word as these photos indicate. These aren't photos FanHouse has permission to post. So, we can only link to them. They do suggest that UCLA continues to lead a charmed life when it comes to late calls -- made or not. Last I checked Josh Shipp getting all wrist, is not the usual way to get a clean block.
Actually, maybe not in this case. Making the free throws -- no lock itself, as Sloan is only a 67% FT shooter and the Aggies were 3-7 at the line that night -- would have only sent the game into overtime. Texas A&M hardly looked like the team it had been for the first 30-35 minutes. Neither did UCLA. The Bruins would have been the team heading into the OT with the momentum and energy.
Still, you never know. I also know I don't want to be anywhere near UCLA fans when the late calls start swinging the other way.

The best part is at 1:20 where Collison uses Love as a lead blocker going to the rim. We need to run that play every time.

The Bruins are lucky that they are major television market. It was a foul but the referees looked the other way.

I was at the game, and thought there was contact at the time. But the refs aren't going to blow the whistle in that situation, with the game on the line and 20,000 UCLA fans in the house going nuts. While the photos show that there was clearly a foul, if you saw the play live, it definitely looked questionable, and sometimes you'd rather have a no-call in that situation than the wrong one.

There was no call, not because it was UCLA, but because you just don't make a call like that at the end of the game. With 5 minutes to go, sure that's a foul. With less than 10 seconds? No.

Were the referees betting big time
on the game? I would have the NCAA
investigate into the financial records
of the referees of some these
games. Remember America is all
about MONEY!!!!!!!

Ucla might have the championships but we all know they did not get any of them with out paying off the officals. Ucla has a tainted history in basketball and this has once again revealed it true past.

I guess I don't understand the mentality of why the same play is a foul with 5 minutes to go, but not a foul with 10 seconds to go. And if professional referees are intimidated by coaches or fans not to make a call, they shouldn't be referees.

this is absolutely ridiculous. how do you NOT call something like that in the last 10 seconds??? you let a team CHEAT to get their victory because of how much time is left? idiotic logic. absolutely horrible, these refs should be banned for life.

the whole game was a rip off. half the time a&m was driving to the hole and getting fouled it wasn't called, and whenever UCLA drove they got the call. thats home-state cookin' there. a&m got ripped, oh and someone posted you don't call that foul in the last 10 seconds of a game, thats ridiculous. that should be called anytime. if your reasoning was correct, there would never be any last second shots, people would just maul the guy and get the win everytime...

The WHOLE game is a ripoff?! What about hold on to your 10-point lead and not choke in the final minutes? If you want to talk about wrong calls, look at all the bad calls they made throughout the game - including the BS call on Collison after he gets MAULED by an ATM player and the BS call on Mbah A Moute as Westbrook and he were diving for the ball? People always seem to imply that UCLA doesn't deserve to win games like this, when in reality, the opposing teams decide to stop playing in the final minutes, blowing their big leads and just plainly choking in the end!
Cry more, haters, cry more.

4. You don't call a blocking foul or a nickle-dimer with 10 seconds left. But that was an obvious foul on an important shot.

I'm a Kansas fan, but I picked A&M to win this game because I thought they were the better team. I still do. Living in Arizona, I've had to put up with this UCLA/Pac-10 crap all season long, and I have *never* seen a team so miserably overrated and so pathetically reliant on B.S. calls by the officials. My heart goes out to the Aggies fans. I hope it will serve as some consolation when the Bruins get absolutely boat-raced by Kansas or Texas later in this tournament - assuming someone else doesn't get them first. I know it sucks to root for the Longhorns, but in this case, geez ...

If A&M is the better team, they should have held on to the 10-point lead and beat UCLA straight up.
