Don Imus apologized this morning for calling the Rutgers women's basketball team "nappy-headed hos" as you can see in this video:
But afterward, Imus appeared on Al Sharpton's radio show, and the transcript of that interview shows that Imus has a long way to go before many people will believe that he was sincere in his apology. Sharpton continues to call for Imus to be fired.
To me, Imus looks and sounds less like someone who's genuinely sorry than like someone who's desperately trying to hold onto his job. His show is so popular that I doubt he'll be fired, but his reputation has taken a huge hit, and he deserves that hit.
UPDATE: Watch video of Imus's appearance on Al Sharpton's show.

Don has lost his mind. He is living in the 1930s and before. This humor is not pleasing to my ear or any of the other African Americans in the United States. His radio show should be canceled.
I watched and listened to Mr.Imus and I believe he totally feels horrible..Leave him alone..
he said he was sorry i think he really means it stop using him as a voice box there are plenty other people doing and saying things alot worse than him...because he is who he is, everyone wants to make him ecactly what they have screw the media i support mr imus
If it were a line on a Rap CD then it would be called "Art". Oh Yea, and if Imus were of color.
Don Imus needs to go. I am tired of hearing about him apologized for racist, sexist remarks. Enough is enough. This isn't the first time he's done it. He talked about the Williams sisters, and he's said some other stuff. He is an embarrassment to sports radio, and any other radio or TV network that is stupid enough to air him and stand behind him. Those young ladies worked their butts off to be the best, and what does Imus do? He attacks them for their looks. How absurd. What a disgrace he is to anyone who supports him or calls him a friend. His time is up.
Now that Imus has refused to resign, this is no longer a question of "Don Imus".
This is now a question of the institutional racism of CBS and NBC, his broadcasters. We are looking at a case of corporate-sponsored racism, sexism, and the ability of old men to comment inappropriately on the appearance of very young women (as long as they can hold their own in the ratings).
Times HAVE changed. In the seventies or eighties, Imus would have been gone more quickly than Jimmy the Greek or Morton Downey Jr.
I'm keeping on the case at http://www.beatvisitor.com until he's gone
first of all i am not of color as the saying goes...i am white which i guess is considered a color. for one thing i don't agree with what imus said even if it was as a joke to get a laugh.young women of any race should not be made a joke of as this. however, i do think it has been blown out of proportion by such idiots as jesse jackson and rev. al. both of these fools never come out unless it benefits them in some way. who in the hell appointed sharpton judge and jury about anyone being hired or fired. hell, most of my black bud's think he a damn clown.if they are so righteous why don't work for the lord as the rev billy graham has done all his life instead of trying to keep a rift going between blacks and whites. oh yea.........if we all got along then neither of two would have an occupation!
Amen!
As long as Al Sharpton is the spokesperson to respond to these comments, I won't take it too seriously. He is just looking for donations.
Imus's comments were crude, to say the least, but why condemn him for saying what are just words? Now I'm not an Imus fan, but I support his right to say what he wants to say on his own radio show. He said nothing that I wouldn't hear every day on equivalent black shows.
If you think I'm off-base, just tune into any black stand-up comic show. There, it's all about denegrading whites, women, hispanics, and Republicans. I don't hear Jessie or Al ringing the racism bell in those cases.
By the way, Al Sharpton: Please learn how to pronounce the word "asked". It sounds to me that you are saying it as "axed", which means that someone took an axe to something... or someone....

And of course you say nothing about Sharpton who is a bigger racist than Imus could ever hope and has caused more pain not to mention DEATHS..just another hypocrite phony
Don Imus said he was sorry. A two week suspension for insulting the Rutgers women's basketball team is good enough. Now if only Reverend Sharpton would tell the rappers to quit insulting the females since it is a woman that brought the male and female population into the world. Got that or else Don Imus will be grilled by Judith Grace.
well, I think black people are very sensitive to racist remarks and I do not blame them. Why don't we understand them? It goes back to the history of slavery, where they were stripped from their homeland and how they were treated back then which carries horrible memories to our current society. We must treat all blacks with respect and dignity. I am white, all white.
Al Sharpton, the prominent civil rights activist, is descended from a slave owned by relatives of the late senator and one-time segregationist Strom Thurmon.
Al Sharpton uses ANY opportunity to get before the press, even if it has nothing to do with him. Don Imus did not make a comment about Al Sharpton. He tried to actually say that the Rutger's female basketball team was a very tough contender, and he chose a popular phrase -- "nappy-headed hos" -- that comedians all over the US bandy about all the time. But Don Imus is not black...therefore, blacks are coming out of the woodwork to jump on Imus, calling him a racist.
WELL CUT THE CRAP, PEOPLE!
I am in an area where my color is less than 10% of the population...but when racial slurs are carelessly thrown at me, I don't get to GO NUTS with back lash and all kinds of public support to call for someone's job because they made an off-color joke at my expense. Al Sharpton is an opportunist IDIOT for jumping all over this issue because his plopping himself in the middle of something that was never directed at him, merely brings out LEGIONS of people to take the opposite side of what Al Sharpton wants you to believe -- because Al Sharpton is so widely hated. I would LOVE to have such a powerfully negative slur word in our language that the INSTANT it was used towards me by someone not of my color, that I could JUSTIFIABLY get violent with that person, have them fired, and be supported by public opinion. The hypocracy in our public debate about these racial issues is incredible as there are so many people using double standards -- that they can slam YOU all over the place with racial slurs against your color...but if you dare say ANYTHING they could perceive as slightly unflattering about their color, then it gets to be national news and people's heads should roll. GET OVER ALL THE STUPID HYPER-SENSITIVITY PEOPLE! We've taken all this "politically correct" business WAY too far.
If you understood the content of the Imus radio show you would not take offense to what he, and or his staff say about anuone or anything. I for one am tired of the sensitivity displayed by certain ethnic groups over statements said about them, GET OVER IT. I think Imus shouldnow leave it alone, and move on. The more he condems himself for saying it the more amunition the idiot's Al Sharpten, Jesse Jackson and the likes will have to use against him. Thank You.
God said to Forgive. What part of "Reverand" Sharpton and Jackson not understand? Perhaps they did not study the bible but adopted that title to get attention. Their behavior only increases racism and now they are the ones that owe an apology for their unforgiving, rioting ways. There are more important things going on in the world such as our men and women dying because of a war by choice by Mr. Bush and his Administration. There is still poor health care, poverty and many other issues they could best serve for ALL of the people.
People who throw stones...Do we remember Tawana Brawley?? Al Sharpton stay out of the media and go home! You are not a legitimate spokesman for any group of people, be it race, creed or color. You should have been locked up a long time ago.
