Did you notice the NIT championship T-shirts the West Virginia players put on last night after they won the NIT championship game? If you looked closely on TV last night, or if you look at the image to your right, you can see that there's just a bit of a problem.6thManSportsWear.com, the officially licensed vendor for the NIT, has acknowledged its error:
***PLEASE NOTE: In our rush to put up a graphic immediately after the closing buzzer, we inadvertently used in incorrect image. We apologize for the error. The correct Championship Tee Shirts will ship, not the "misspelled" shirt! Thank You!
Hey, everyone makes mistakes, and it's nice that they've apologized and promised to ship shirts without the spelling error. Still, forgive me if I giggled like a schoolgirl when I first saw it.

NIT-wits. 'FAN lexicologist Russo might bottom-line this as "gregarious, a gregarious mistake." When I herd that social-ist dispronounciate that recently, I became almost catapultic. What a flocker he must be!
Perhap this third "i" blinded was a overlook, considering the frenetic circumcisions and having only too days to screen and box out, but next time, get a profreader to check of mispellings, K.O.?
To those ruminating (or passed out) on the 'Lair Plaza, or huddled in the offices of the DA, could this have been a conspiracy? Or to those trudging up High Street, or riding the rail to another crappy philosophy class, was this a sign of big-city disrespect? Or was it truly an oversight? Actually, more like an undersight. "West Virginia" needed three "i's," but the Sixth Man apparently has only two "i's." And, to all you clicheists who know there still be no "i" in "team"...we now know there is also one "i" missing from the 6th man.
Good thing they didn't try to spell out "Mountainear" or "Beeline." Or "Milos Pappenfuss Stadium."

In all fairness, I believe the West Virgina AD filled in their NIT application with the name spelled that way to begin with. Also, I believe the application was completed in pencil with multipule cross-outs and mailed postage-due. Go West Virgina!

The problem is I have shown the graphic to several residents of the Mountain State, and they don't see anything wrong.

These things happen. But, it had to be about West Virginia. We always get made fun of. Some people don't even know that West Virginia is its own state. I have been on vacation and people will ask where we are from. When we say, West Virginia we hear oh what part of Virginia is that??

If someone asks what part of Virginia that a place called WEST Virginia would be in, don't take it as a mocking of your state

People who can only make jokes about West Virginia should probably stop making jokes. They have all been told and they really arent funny.
What I want to know is where the people who make these shirts are from. They apparently do not believe in proofreading. They misspell West Virginia, and then in their apology use terrible english. "we inadvertently used in incorrect image"

I see nothing wrong with making fun of West Virginia. I used to live there. I joke about the place all the time.

West Virginia has more Nobel Prize winners per capita than any other state. And more CMH recipients. End of story.

The Media and sports announcers should be reprimanded for how they insinuated and made too big a deal of it because they stereotype West Virginia like many of us are guilty of occassionally. I accept that is was a simple mistake. America should be overjoyed to have a place like West Virginia that is so beautiful and natural, which I attribute to a low population and very slow growth.
