Madness Hair Watch: Washington State Hoopsters

Meet Washington State stars Derrick Low (left) and Robbie Cowgill (right). Aside from helping lead the Cougars to their first tournament appearance in like 20 some years, they also have unique hair or facial hair styles.

Low, a Hawaii native who apparently had some kind of rebirth or something wild like that, decided to scrap the clean-cut look and go with the more Hawaiian look, I suppose. It's cool and all that he wants to reconnect with his roots, but um, Derrick, you're wearing a headband. Like a girl. Yeah, a headband like a girl. That tuft of hair on your chin isn't a bad complement to the hair-band-y thing you have going, but it looks like you drew on your face with Sharpie. I hedge-clipper to your 'do would be recommended.

As for Cowgill, well, he used to look like this. I think he may have reconnected with his roots too and that would be with some plants that are illegal in most countries. Cowgill's shagged out, scruffy, "razor's are for tools" look is one of a college freshman who feels that his hair and beard length need to correlate with the amount of drugs he's smoking.

And I'm sure Cowgill's clean -- though Pullman, Wash. is awfully close to Josh Heytfelt and Gonzaga in Spokane -- but his hairy appearance wears an unwritten sign that says, "How much for an ounce?"

The power of hair.
