Sigh. I have to admit I'm getting very, very tired of writing this sort of thing up. Yet another Florida basketball player has managed to have "inappropriate interaction" with a non-player. This time it's Brandon Powell reacting to a shove or a bump or something when Vanderbilt students stormed the court after knocking off #1 Florida.
Double-sigh.
At least it isn't Joakim Noah. All right, watch:
(HT: phoginator [Roger the Scrubber] from the Scout.com message boards)
Now, let me be the first to say that I'm not 100% convinced that I'm seeing what I think I'm seeing. Watch the slow-mo portion of this video carefully. The "punch" (maybe it's an elbow or a "forearm shiver?") appears to occur after the circle disappears and the thin white line points out Powell to the left.
But it damn sure looks like a punch, dunnit?
Triple-sigh.
I guess this is my just dessert after writing the Tubby Smith Bunker spoof. What comes around, goes around...

I can't really blame the player too much about this. I despite the ol' "running on the court" deal because it is usually classless and dangerous. Classless because these fans need to act like they've been there before. Vandy is the 2nd best team in the SEC and shouldn't run on the floor after beating the top team. Hell, no conference foes should ever do that. It is dangerous because, well, do I need to talk about fans and athletes getting into it when mixed together. Imagine thousands of people who were cheering against you rushing up on your seconds after you lose a game. You may get a bit defensive.
The only time I don't have a class problem with the "fan rush" is if a big time team goes to a mid-major or something and gets knocked off. If Florida lost at Florida Gulf Coast State University...yeah, the FGCSU fans can celebrate.

That's a crock! Powell sucker-punched some student in THE BACK OF THE HEAD! Powell wasn't even in danger... it's not like he was swinging his way out of the middle of the fracas; he was at best on the perimeter.
AND no one went of their way to taunt this punk. Like it or not, anytime an unranked team at home beats the #1 team in the nation (ending their 17 game win streak) AND said loser is a conference rival, it's almost a given the floor will be rushed.
He's not within his rights to do that, (thus leaving himself open for a lawsuit).
Hey Powell: You lost, you deal with it like a man... don't just clock somebody running by.
Even UT has more class than that.

I am glad Vandy won but these situations can be dangerous for the visiting players and the FL player in question here has a right to protect and defend himself.

Vanderbilt will be fined $25000 for the students rushing the court. its a rule in the SEC that no SEC team students rush the feild, or court. the first fine is $5000, but this is the second time. and just so you know "laughing" UF have never rushed the court, doesnt matter who we play.i have been a student at UF for 3 years and we have never rush the court (even tho we wish we could against Ohio State)

Umm the only other incident i can think of with a florida basketball player is Udonus Haslem (sp) a couple of years ago at georgia. Can you please refresh my memory of the many other inappropriate interactions florida players have with non-students. Also Ive never heard Noah say or do anything inappropriate.
BTW UF doesnt storm the court or rush the field at football games, that is reserved for schools that dont expect to win games.

Whatchoo smokin', ColoradoGator? This is the third incident in seven days. Two involving Noah, now one with Powell.
I don't hold either of Noah's "transgressions" against him except that I think it was a bit childish of him to go for the ball the second time when Kevin Stallings held it out of reach. Stallings' behavior was by far the more dubious in that affair.
If Powell punched this Vandy student as the tape suggests, I also harbor some feelings of sympathy for him as court-rushing is dangerous for the players, but there's really no excuse for throwing a punch in the modern era.

I've been in Gainesville for 12 years and both the football field and BB court have never been rushed. For football, dozens of sheriff deputies and volunteers line all 4 sides of the field to make sure of that. I've seen some people run on the field during a rain delay and get tackled brutally. BB games are the same deal. We know not to rush.

1. I see no punch. I do see an obese Vandy fan on the court push Powell. Why aren't people angry about that? He shouldn't even be there.
2. Gators do not rush the football field or BBall court. We expect to win.
3. What kind of punk coach takes the ball away from a player during the game? Noah did right.

As a proud Gator, its sad to see this, regardless of Vandy's irrespobsibility. Bottom line.
...the same does NOT go for both of Noah's "incidents." No one was hurt (nor was that the intention) in either of those cases.

Why don't you guys at AOL quit posting pictures of Krzyzewski? First of all, he's ugly. Second, his team lost. Don't you get it? No one wants to keep looking at pictures of some guy whose team is already out of contention.
