Sunday ACC Recap: Ga Tech Gets "Revenge", Beats UConn

- GEORGIA TECH 65-UCONN 52: I hate the fact that people said this Ga Tech win over UConn was a bit of revenge for losing to the Huskies in the 2004 National Championship game. Neither team looks anything like those teams and both are miles away from playing in the Final Four right now. And I'm sure those guys didn't say after the game, "yeah, but the real champion will be crowned in a late season game on February 11, 2007!" Still, this was a very important win for Tech and the ACC in general. For the Jackets, it helped plump their tournament resume just a tad as it acted as sort of a tie-breaker between them and UConn. It also helped the ACC as is showed the strength of the conference.
- MARYLAND 72-DUKE 60: The Terps (4-6) used a 29-4 run to break open this game early to send the Blue Devils (5-6) to their 4th straight loss. The win helps out Maryland in their bubble issues while the loss could place Duke smack dab on the bubble. Unlike the three previous losses in this streak, Duke was just blown out in this one [they did make a nice comeback, but ran out of gas]. Duke now heads on to Boston College to face the ACC-leading Eagles.
- BOSTON COLLEGE 68-FLORIDA STATE 67: Speaking of BC, the Eagles (9-2) went into hostile Florida State and stole a win. Their 68-67 win over the Noles (5-6) pushed the Eagles back atop the ACC and into near lock status to the NCAA tournament. They have nine ACC wins in the back, which should be enough to get them in....even if naysayers point to loses to Duquesne and Vermont. No matter what you've done, leading the ACC eleven games into the conference season is quite impressive. As for FSU, this loss stings. When fighting your way off the bubble, you can ill afford to lose to other bubble teams on your home floor. Selection members kind of frown on that.
