Dunks from the Day: Steve Blake

With the college season in full swing, this seems like as good a time as any to re-introduce a semi-regular feature: Dunks from the Day, which, if you can't tell by the title, will highlight some amazing dunks from, um, back in the day. None of this new-fangled, fancy-pants stuff ... I'm talking about guys throwing it down while sporting side burns, nut-huggers and knee socks.

Okay, this really doesn't qualify as a Dunk from the Day, but ... well, just keep reading. I'm sitting here watching the Nuggets-Rockets game and Mike Tirico's discussing the Earl Boykins-Steve Blake trade. Seeing Blake feed Reggie Evans for an easy layup reminded me how good he was at the University of Maryland. Blake made a living finding Juan Dixon on the perimeter, getting Lonny Baxter the ball in the paint and seemingly always shutting down Duke's Jason Jay Jason Williams. Although never considered much of a scorer, Blake averaged 11.6 points per game and shot 41.6 percent from behind the arc his senior season.

But after watching this clip -- maybe one of the most embarrassing things you can do to yourself on the basketball court ... after this, I'm guessing -- it's clear why Blake didn't take the ball to the hole more often.
